Why Fantasy Keeps Landing in Pseudo‑England
Fantasy is brilliant at travelling thousands of imaginary miles and still ending up in a muddy market square beneath a castle that feels suspiciously like a rebranded English county, as you buy a wormy apple from a cart under the shadow of the lord's castle. Change the place names, add three moons, give the king a dragon, rename Christianity after a flame or seven too-familiar gods, slide Scandinavia a bit north and Italy a bit south, stick an apostrophe in someone’s surname, and lo! We’re back in the same genre-default “Old World.”
Essay: Unreliable Narrator Steals a Stopwatch from his Feral Gremlin Child
Raptoraem does not behave chronologically because its characters do not experience themselves chronologically. Memory is political, trauma is architectural, and history itself is something people weaponize, revise, suppress, worship, misremember, and occasionally drag into the room by the throat and yell at for not listening to them and daring to speak out of turn.
The Other History of Raptoraem
The official histories of Raptoraem are written in ledgers, treaties, censuses, and lists of the dead. Its other history lives in the body.
This is why song and dance matter to the Pitbound: they preserve names, neighborhoods, grief, desire, and defiance long after institutions have rewritten the record. A look at Raptoraem’s counter-ledger—and the people who know exactly where the beat lives.
WHY GEOGRAPHY MATTERS IN RAPTØRÆM
Most fantasy worlds are built around territory.
Who owns the land. Who controls the armies. Who sits on the throne.
Raptøræm is built around something older: movement.
